This Week in the Outdoors

Wow, what a week!  The weather was perfect, the kids were fantastic and we just couldn't stay indoors.  We spent quite a bit of time working on our outdoor space as well as writing some poetry and collecting some monarch caterpillars.  We had a great afternoon working on team building with Mrs. Cowan and Mrs. Scandale, and we've begun to learn some interesting facts about the beautiful mountain outside our window.  So far we've learned that Mt. Mansfield is 4,395 tall and if you're standing on the summit you are still in Underhill!  How cool is that?
     For our first try at poetry we wrote about an item we collected from nature.  Some of us wrote about leaves, some wrote about goldenrod and still others wrote about things such as pine cones, pine needles, and twigs.
     A big THANK YOU to Jennifer Bugbee and Dominique and Bridget Corriveau for coming out to help us work on our outdoor classroom.  With their help we were able to plant some bulbs, paint some tile markers for the garden, build fairy houses and bird feeders.  We so appreciate them taking time out of their day to help out!
     We now have 6 monarch caterpillars eating away at some milkweed in the classroom!  We look forward to watching them spin their chrysalis' and turn into butterflies.
     From the looks of the forecast, next week is going to be warm and mostly sunny.  We are sure to be spending lots more time outdoors!
